Who’s offering it and why?
I’m Sue Artuso. Having had a horse whose Dressage career started when he was in his mid twenties, I quickly realized that even though there are Vintage Awards and Master’s Challenge Awards given to rider’s, locally and nationally, there was nothing for older horses. I decided that there should be. With my horse as the inspiration, I started the Cajun’s Billy Bert Vintage Horse Award in 2002.

What is it?
It is a High Score Award. It goes to the highest scoring horse of a show, who is age 20 or over. Eligibility is open to all horses,* meeting the age requirement, at all levels. Membership affiliations do not apply.

It will be offered throughout the Northeast and as far west as Ohio this season. Please see the EVENTS page for more details.

Managers—how do you make it part of your shows’ award list?
All you need to do is check ages on the coggins test of the entries for your show. Even if there will be only one horse who meets the age requirements, give me a call and let me know you would like to give it. I’ll arrange getting it to you.

Competitors—how do you become eligible to win?
Just get out there and enjoy your veteran! Go to a participating show and I (with lots of help from show management) will take care of the rest. When scores are compiled, and ages confirmed, the winner will be determined. If all the information isn’t together by the end of the show, I’ll get your horse‘s award to you by mail as quickly as possible.

Sponsors—how can you help make this award keep growing?
Please contact me so we can talk about how you’d like to help. Maybe you are someone with an equine-related business. Maybe you are someone with a soft spot for these older equine competitors. Whomever you are, your help will be greatly appreciated and you will be included on our SPONSORS page.

If you would like additional information about the award, please contact me at info@vintagehorseaward.com.
*Limit 3 wins per horse. (Yes, there have already been two horses who won that many times)
